Themed Bed & Breakfast - Glenmore House
Property Name: Glenmore House
Theme: Angling
Such is the dedication of John and Valerie Brown to looking after their guests that, frequently they don’t get to sit down to breakfast until after noon!!! Do they complain? No! Their ethos is that guests are the number one priority at Glenmore House and when all visitors needs have been tended to and the day ahead sorted, they can then dine at ease.
Glenmore House is situated on 95 acres of natural rugged terrain, walks and lakes. Just 2 miles from the coastal town of Ballycastle, Glenmore House is on the main coast road and only a few hundred yards from the cliffs. The panoramic views have many viewing points around the grounds comprising Isla and Mull of Kintyre forming a dramatic backdrop to Rathlin Island. This beautiful part of North East Ireland is a pleasure to explore with plenty to absorb such as the nine glens of Antrim and the official world heritage site, Giants Causeway, a real geological curiosity. Visit the oldest licensed distillery in the world at Bushmills and settle the nerves before you cross the Carrick-a-Reede rope bridge. Don’t look down!!
The Brown Family has a ‘patience’ gene, John’s ease of manner and love of fishing is evidence of that, not to mention with the time spent by John’s brother, Frank, creating the wonderful wooden sculptures around Glenmore. This also makes John the perfect tutor to teach you how to fish on one of the Glenmore Lakes, a real angler’s paradise. These spring fed lakes are suitable for fly fishing rainbow and brown trout. These trout are ‘hard fighting fish’ which doesn’t necessarily make them harder to catch but simply more delicious to eat!! To make your days activity as enjoyable as possible the Brown family can organise, bait licences’, fishing permits, boat hire, rod hire, purchase of flies, whatever you may require. Before you take to the lake if you order your packed lunch from the Restaurant, this can be delivered to you to dine as you will; on board, in the fishing lodge with the tea making facilities or join the rest of the family at one of the picnic spots after their morning of walking or playing tennis; or simply dangle your legs over the lake platform access and watch the cheeky trout leap just to tease you!!
After a busy day at Glenmore, leave the fishing gear into the drying room and the trout into the kitchen to Chef for your dinner!! The candlelit Restaurant at Glenmore House prides itself on using local produce wherever possible and this compliments the fresh trout caught daily from the Glenmore Lake and the locally caught fresh Salmon on its Menu. Ready for bed, not yet. Enjoy a tipple in the lounge and on a good night the Brown Daughters kick off with an evening of toe tapping traditional music! Anne-Marie is a dab hand on the bodhrán and is known to give a lesson in the art of playing. You never know, this could improve your fishing skills!!
Glenmore is ever evolving. John and Valerie’s next project is to create a river shaped lake which will reach over 34acres and the intention is to have a wildlife sanctuary on the marsh land in the centre attracting animal and birdwatchers to their parkland. This will be an amazing development and it will take many more delayed breakfasts to plan it to perfection. Have patience!!
