Themed Bed & Breakfasts - St Judes

St. Jude's B&BProperty Name: St Jude’s

Theme: Food

On the main Bus route to the centre of Galway, city of the tribes; and within walking distance of bustling Salthill, St Jude’s is the perfect base for access to a stroll on the promenade, an evening at the theatre or a browse around the shops.  A very distinguished building circa. 1920’s, St Jude’s was carefully restored & extended in 1996 to incorporate today’s modern comforts whilst retaining the original features of this classic home.

The Johnstone family will be looking after you during your stay at St Jude’s.  Daughter Sinead is the food expert in the house, whilst parents Tony and Ita are the experts on everything else!   The Bedrooms are bright and airy with high ceilings; dotted with pottery pieces created by a local potter and the beds are adorned with cushions made by Ita’s own fair hands.  Galway is great city for festivals and fairs, so Ita & Tony can keep you updated with schedules and events.  Maybe the city is too busy for you; head out into the wilds of Connemara, just a short drive in the other direction, again your hosts can recommend places to visit and good stop off points!!

The thing is, you may not want to leave St Jude’s at all. With Ballymaloe trained Sinead at the helm in the kitchen, only something really worthy will lure you away from the delicious ‘top notch’ food being served!!  But don’t worry, after a breakfast fit for a king, it won’t be too long before you can pop back for a pre ordered light lunch or snack maybe even a picnic, all expertly and lovingly prepared by Sinead, just for you, or so it seems that way!   Great, just a few hours to dinner……!     Why not learn the secrets yourself?  Using herbs and fruits from the garden at St Jude’s where possible, the Cookery Demonstrations hosted by Sinead are becoming extremely popular.  Held in the evening time in a purpose built semi-professional kitchen, these classes are a moveable feast!  As each course is prepared, the class adjourns to the adjacent dining room to sample the food, then its back to the kitchen for the next one.  Organic and locally sourced fresh produce is the order of the day at St Jude’s and dietary requirements can be catered for.  Cookery classes range from A Taste of Ireland to A taste of the Middle East, from Brunch to Quick Midweek Suppers, so there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes.  Tailor made classes can be arranged for groups (max. 6 people) and at the end of every class you receive copies of all the recipes prepared.   This year Sinead will have homemade produce such as jams & chutneys available for sale at St Jude’s.  Not one to hang about, Sinead is a member of the ‘Irish slow food movement’ and she has also applied for her own market stall to sell her wares. Until then a visit to the market in Church Lane in the city centre is a must for food lovers, madras curry, yummy crepes, sushi, handmade chocolates and much more besides.

So imagine, St Jude’s is a big pot, add a big welcome from the Johnstone family, comfort and great location. Stir in delicious food and a dollop of cooking expertise from Sinead, simmer over a few days and you’ll have found the perfect recipe!!
